A cable robot consists of a platform with a gripper suspended from multiple cables. Motors and winches wind and unwind these cables in a coordinated manner, moving the platform precisely and dynamically in all directions with six degrees of freedom, including tool rotation. Because the reach scales solely with the cable length, a single system covers workspaces for which a rigid robotic arm is too small and a fixed gantry is too inflexible.
